Your Guide To Family Friendly Travel in East Africa

Are you planning a family safari to East Africa but aren’t certain of which destinations to go to? Uganda is a very child friendly place for a safari holiday and is an ideal way to connect you and your loved ones with nature.

Here are some destinations and fun filled activities you can bask in with your family.

Wildlife safaris. There is nothing as fulfilling as seeing the excitement on your child’s face when they see a lioness hunting down its prey or a leopard slithering through the trees. Uganda’s national parks located on the Western circuit like Murchison Falls National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park are prime for family safaris. These parks are abundantly blessed with hundreds of animal species, birds and reptiles surviving in the same habitat. After a satisfactory game drive, you can enjoy a boat cruise and then spend a relaxing evening at your hotel.

Island tours. There are a number of thrilling activities concentrated around Lake Victoria that would be great for families to indulge in. Ssese islands are some of the finest tropical islands with sand beaches perfect for a laidback holiday and fun at the beach for the kids. On Ngamba island, you can visit Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a home to orphaned chimpanzees in Uganda which offers a great family friendly experience with the chimpanzees.

Gorilla tracking. Gorilla tracking is the most demanded activity for tourists that come to East Africa. While Uganda is a child friendly place for a safari holiday, please be aware that gorilla tracking is only available to children aged 15 years and above. This is because this activity is extreme and will be hectic for the younger children. Families traveling with children who are above 15 years will definitely enjoy a once in a lifetime experience with the gorillas.

Cultural experiences. East Africa is gifted with people from diverse cultures, traditions and backgrounds. There are various cultural encounters in East Africa where your family has an opportunity to blend in and interact with people from these different cultures through music, dance and drama, storytelling and so much more. Not only do you get to see exhilarating cultural performances, you also get to taste some of East Africa’s special delicacies as you enjoy your experience with the locals.
